Sickle Cell Partners of the Carolinas was blown away by the community’s support of the University City Turkey Trot! We send a huge thank you to all participants! Now in its third year, the annual 5k race seeks to raise broader awareness about sickle cell disease, an inherited blood disorder. Nearly 500 people signed up to run the race which was a huge jump from last year! The organizing team prides itself on keeping the race fun and simple but this year added an extra element or two. Each finisher received a medal as they crossed the finish line. In addition, a student came up with an idea to have a canned food drive to “share the gobble” on Thanksgiving. The race was an overwhelming success and definitely has gained traction in the University City area. Thank you to everyone who was able to take part in this great race and a special thank you to our sponsors: Tide Drycleaners, Bojangles’, University City Partners, Community Blood Center of the Carolinas, Orange Theory Fitness, Smoothie King (Prosperity Church Road), The Fresh Market, Dilworth Coffee, Hickory Tavern, Hawthorne’s Pizza and Google Fiber. We hope to see more of you at next year’s race on Thanksgiving Day 2017! GOBBLE!
