SICKLE CELL PARTNERS OF THE CAROLINAS BECKWITH SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS
Sickle Cell Partners of the Carolinas is pleased to announce the first recipients of the $500 scholarships established in 2014 to honor the memory of Mrs. Ivestia “Peggy” Beckwith. The scholarships were designed to honor Mrs. Beckwith’s long-standing commitment, service and work on behalf of sickle cell patients across North Carolina and beyond.
The winning recipients are:
- Janay Lindsey who will begin her studies at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke in pursuit of a Nursing degree.
- Terry Fry who will continue his studies at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte in pursuit of a Business Administration degree.
- Celine Kisimba who will continue her studies at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in pursuit of a Nursing/Pre-Med degree.
Initially SCPOC guidelines stated only two scholarships would be awarded. However, the words from an essay from one of these winning candidates spoke volumes in terms of SCPOC’s mission to raise awareness and educate the community about sickle cell disease. Thank you to everyone involved in this process, especially those of you who applied.
Sickle Cell Partners of the Carolinas is a non-profit 501c (3) tax exempt organization that exists to “partner” with any organization that is working to make a difference in the lives of patients and families affected by sickle cell disease. Our mission is to provide a network of support for patients and families affected by sickle cell anemia; to raise awareness and educate the community; and to advocate for a cure. We have “partners” in our name because we know that we cannot do that alone.
Please join me in congratulating the recipients of the Beckwith scholarship. If you would like to donate to the scholarship fund, please see our website: sicklecellpartnersofthecarolinas.org . We wish every student who applied for the Beckwith Scholarship the absolute best as you pursue your studies this year.
