I get it. It’s Thanksgiving and you have a million things to do to get that Thanksgiving meal on the table. Who wants to get up on a holiday and run in the cold? Who does that? Not you I know, but many have and Sickle Cell Partners of the Carolinas sincerely thanks them. The University City Turkey Trot is a 5K race/walk sponsored by Sickle Cell Partners of the Carolinas to raise money for our organization but more importantly to raise awareness about Sickle Cell Disease.
Those who run this race don’t suffer through pain crisis or live each day with a level of pain they learn to tolerate as many sickle cell patients do. As patients and caregivers, many of you know how hard this condition is to live with. So, if you cannot take part by physically running this race, help us spread the word among your family, friends and co-corkers. Donate to the race by going to http://www.universitycityturkeytrot.com/. If you don’t run, SCPOC will get your donation and there is even a donation button on the race page as well as on our website.
There is a lot of work that goes into pulling off an event of this magnitude. However, I have found over and over again that the hardest thing is convincing people to get involved to help raise the level of awareness about Sickle Cell Disease. You should get involved with this race, and all the other events SCPOC sponsors throughout the year, because this is a patient population we all care about that deserves more attention, understanding, funding, and education. Respond to this… I’d love to keep the conversation going… “Sickle Cell Disease… Let’s Talk About It!”
